Resizing the speech recognition window

Although I can move the speech recognition window around just fine, when I try to resize it, it keeps  snapping back to its default size. Is there any way that I can make it stay at the size I want it?

I want to be able to see it in the background when I'm using dictation mode, because sometimes the speech recognition window is not working very well and it would help me to see what is happening. Right now it is about 2/5 of the width of my screen, but I would like it to be smaller so that the document I am working on can be wider.
